Elected representatives depend on good advice
The rapid growth in tourism, confirmation of the interest shown in Belle Dune accommodation facilities, the emergence of a vision on the scale of the Marquenterre, the partnership with the areas of Fort-Mahon-plage and Saint-Quentin-en Tourmont, the influx of people linked with the development of cycle tracks, are all giving local elected representatives much to think about. Whether it is “facing land” (with the need to review urbanisation documents –Local urbanisation project) or “facing the sea” (problems of coast line erosion), they have chosen to surround themselves with informed advice in order to build a project for sustainable development of the area. The first year in the mission of urban assistance has led to all the problems being highlighted: control of urbanisation, management of population

influxes, tourism facilities, evolution of the aquatic centre site...
A number of broad principles has been tabled. To put them into action, the mission for urban assistance has set out the specifications of a development competition between concept design teams. Their projects will be submitted to the elected representatives and the public so that they may make a choice reflecting their future town.

In 2003, under the terms of the contract for the 2000/2006 plan, regarding erosion risks in urbanised zones, the commune and large communities have asked Smacopi to acquire the Château du Moulinet property.
The Grand Site National Operation recommends that the “Parking la Maye” should be moved to a piece of land behind the sea front and that the damaged line of dunes (by the present car park) should be reconstituted. Negotiations regarding the financial arrangements for the land earmarked to become the replacement parking area are now complete. On June 6th, a consultation meeting took place between the consultative committee of the nature reserve and the financial institution partners. They will shortly be requested to undertake the “preliminary study” and “administrative procedures” phases by 2006
