Sailly-Bray Marsh
Rebirth
of a highly renowned hunting area part of Picardys natural
heritage
The Sailly-Bray marsh is without doubt one of the most remarkable
coastal hinterland marsh around the Bay of the Somme. Its
reputation in the world of hunting is linked to the famous 400
Shots Hunting lodge, created in1904 by Viscount Henri de Brossin
de Méré.
The pond of this mythical lodge was gradually silting up over the
years. Without intervention it would have quickly led to a definite
end to water in the area. This exceptional heritage, a symbol of
traditional hunting activities in the Bay of the Somme and rich
in bio-diversity deserved an energetic operation to re-establish
its hydraulic system and make it again fully functional. With financial
assistance from the Somme Department, the European Union and the
SANEF Motorway Authority through its 1% landscape compensation fund,
dredging works were carried out during the summer 2000.
