Sailly-Bray Marsh

Rebirth of a highly renowned hunting area part of Picardy’s natural heritage

The Sailly-Bray marsh is without doubt one of the most remarkable coastal hinterland marsh around the Bay of the Somme. It’s reputation in the world of hunting is linked to the famous “400 Shots” Hunting lodge, created in1904 by Viscount Henri de Brossin de Méré.
The pond of this mythical lodge was gradually silting up over the years. Without intervention it would have quickly led to a definite end to water in the area. This exceptional heritage, a symbol of traditional hunting activities in the Bay of the Somme and rich in bio-diversity deserved an energetic operation to re-establish its hydraulic system and make it again fully functional. With financial assistance from the Somme Department, the European Union and the SANEF Motorway Authority through its 1% landscape compensation fund, dredging works were carried out during the summer 2000.

52 projects for Coastal Picardy

52 projects to better protect habitats and natural landscapes

The SMACOPI has realised a collection of project proposals entitled “52 projects for Coastal Picardy for the years 2000-2002” in response to a call out for projects from the “Secrétariat Général aux Affaires Régionales” (General Secretariat for Regional Affairs) as part of the FEDER Objective 2 programme (European Regional Development Fund).
The philosophy of the package of projects presented is to protect remarkable habitats and natural landscapes, to raise public awareness concerning their conservation, and also to turn them into real sustainable production tools whilst developing visitor satisfaction through quality tourist infrastructures.
They emanate from various organisations both private and public under the aegis of a common “Coastal Picardy” concept, which demonstrates their coherence and homogeneity.
