“Keeping our authentic style is the only path towards sustainable development”

EThe development of tourism means we must strive at each stage to strike the right balance between local heritage and an exotic style. The latter can rapidly result in the creation of an artificial landscape to “impress tourists”. Local inhabitants become simple actors. Our quest to regain our heritage must however, on the contrary, include respect for the local environment and be based on fundamental local activities such as agriculture, fishing and hunting as part of a drive towards sustainable development. Recognising our specific identity and culture are key elements of the strategy we want to implement to encourage tourism in Coastal Picardy.

Belle Dune :
Beginning of the works near Quend

Town of Quend

With 216 accommodations delivered and now lived in, construction work on land belonging to the town of Fort-Mahon is over. The town of Quend is now in its turn at the heart of important financial investments. 102 houses will be built. Their sale by Pierre & Vacances has just begun and two new areas : «Le Grand Lac Sud» and «L'Ile aux Oiseaux» will be ready by 2000-2001.

A sleeping capacity of more than 2 000 beds
With the opening of the Fort-Mahon and Quend areas the Belle Dune accommodations will house more than 2 000 persons. This represents the necessary number to allow a year long opening. The various works to finish off the area : cables and pipes, road surfacing, checking the lake for leaks, landscaping and planting will begin this Fall.
The roundabout will be re-proportioned so as to blend in better with the living quarters and the south of the Belle Dune village.
Lastly the re-structuration of the AQUACLUB will end with the pulling up to norms of the kitchen, the construction of an air vent, the creation of a gaz heating system for the air, new layouts for the office, the extension of the sides of the pool and a new “health” area. 19 500 000 FF of works are planned by the SMACOPI during the winter season 1999/2000. They will occur with the financial assistance of European Regional Development Funds (FEDER), the Picardie Region and the Somme Department.
