Coastal Picardy is facing its European future

Coastal Picardy was able to respond to this necessity and is thus entering the millennium totally serene. A mix of means and will provided by the Government, the Picardy Region, the Somme, Department, the communes and the Mixed Syndicate for Coastal Management in Picardy provides the area with decisive and necessary means to meet the challenges of the common European market. Local inhabitants have at their disposal exceptional resources: at the local coastal town level, each with their own rich particularities; in terms of the accommodations on offer which are better structured; and in terms of leisure establishments that correspond better to tourist requirements. All of which is in keeping with the tenets of sustainable development and is done in harmony with the natural environment, which is fiercely being preserved.

"Inauguration at the Valloires Gardens in the presence of M. Grossard Sub-Prefect of Abbeville, M. Duclercq President of the Valloires Association, M. Henno on behalf of the M. Demilly President of the General Council, M. Delbard Manager of the Delbard firm and M. Bignon President of the SMACOPI"

To commemorate 900 years of the Cîteaux monastery order, the Valloires Gardens and the firm “Société Georges Delbard”, with the help of the Saint-Riquier Festival, celebrated on July 5th last, the rose of the abbeys, called the “Cistercian Rose”. Created by Guy Delbard, the “Cistercian Rose” has large, double flower heads lobed in light yellow and pink with a delicate scent of grapefruit and May Rose, it changes colours during the various stages of its life.
Theatre and music accompanied the party, acting as “godmother and godfather”.
The theatre company «Art Tout Chaud» provided a first role to the “Cistercian Rose” in a very original parody of Saint-Exupéry’s Little Prince.
Music closed off the occasion with a concert in the chapel by the Hungarian Szolnok Symphonic Orchestra and the “Ensemble Vocal de la Côte d’Opale et de Sergines”. They interpreted Schubert’s «Messe en Sol pour orchestre et soli» and Vivaldi’s «Gloria pour orchestre, chœur et soli». A cocktail party then refreshed the guests back at the Abbey.
