The Belle Dune project is underway

As President since 1982, of the Mixed Syndicate for Management in Coastal Picardy (SMACOPI ) I am very pleased with progress on the “Belle Dune” operation. The " Zone d’Aménagement Concertée du Royon" (Royon concerted planning area) was created on April 24th 1991, at the SMACOPI's behest. The aim pursued by the towns of Quend and Fort-Mahon was to create a tourist complex integrated in the “Belle Dune” environment. To this end, in 1993 the SMACOPI called out for candidates for the realisation and later management of a, mainly rental, tourist accomodation complex. Pierre & Vacances was the winning candidate. In 1994, The General Council, the SMACOPI and Pierre & Vacances signed an agreement protocol concerning the requirements and conditions for the good realisation of this operation. In a few days the project will be finalised with the signing of sale promises and first on site constructions.

Bas-Champs seawall

Work begins in May

Work underway to reinforce theBas-Champs seawall

Decrees concerning the law on water and on shingle extraction on the site of La Mollière between Cayeux-sur-Mer and Le Hourdel have just been received. After receiving the seawall building concession, these last elements were necessary to begin the works. Since the call out to tender for the purchase of shingle was unsuccessful a new bid was organised. The bid approval committee chose contractors and agreements were signed with the companies concerned. Phase 1 of works was decided mid-April to build the semi-circle from groyne 50 to 1993 that includes the 14 most vulnerable elements. The two other conditional works will begin this autumn. Unconditional works will follow this autumn. As shingle retention areas are created in between two groynes, it will be necessary to fill them in with shingle. The local Infrastructure department is preparing consultation documents for next September for the sea wall reinforcement works and for the realisation of compensatory measures.
