Regaining the urban environment...

After a period of doubts during the years 1985 to 90 about Coastal Picardy’s capacity to adapt to growing tourist demands, the years 1990 to 95 have seen the development of a new faith in the future. Fair results were obtained in the management of tourist facilities (for example the Aquaclub, the management of which was passed over to the SMACOPI in 1989) and sensible actions with set targets were devised in accord with the towns.
Quend-Plage was one of the first resorts of Coastal Picardy to agree to enforce a politic of concerted renovation, concerning its seaside tourism. In
1995, Fort-Mahon began a vast study to redesign its built landscape by proposing the development of a new image for the resort. To take possession of the urban environment by renovating it has been one of the strong underlying themes of the operations led by the SMACOPI and its partners over the past
15 years.

Bird Festival

The 6th edition, from April 13th to 21st 1996

Medieval free flying bird of prey show at the Maison de l’Oiseau

From its first festival in 1991 onwards, the SMACOPI became associated with the organisation of the Bird festival. It is only fitting at a time when the sixth festival is in the offing, to thank the hundreds of volunteers who work side by side with tourist professionals to create this high quality event celebrating birds and Coastal Picardy. This year the festival will be held from the 13th to the 21st of April. Yet again the “Maison de l’Oiseau” will actively participate in making it a success by proposing a very attractive programme with, among other things a medieval free flying bird of prey show on Saturday 13th, Sunday 14th and Monday 15th April and the dispersal of about ten hot air balloons Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st of April.
