the Bay of the Somme :
"a management model"

In the magazine "Valeurs Vertes" specialising in international environmental economy, the Bay of the Somme is presented as a “management model”. Public administrations can be proud of themselves to be today present over the cover of several big nation-wide magazines. This is the result of a coherent planning politic carried out over the past 20 years that always strove to develop the local economy by emphasising an exceptional natural heritage. Thanks to concerted efforts, tourism in Coastal Picardy is today a major activity. In 1974, the Mixed Syndicate had 10 employees, today there are 120, of which about 40 are on a permanent basis. That is one of the aims of the administrations and the SMACOPI. Homage has to be paid to all those who, through their competence and determination, strove over the past 20 years to turn Coastal Picardy into an example of ecological and economic development.

Saint-Valery sur Somme :

inaugurating the Quai Blavet

The wooden walkway of the “Quai Blavet” inaugurated on July 28th last, is the first feature to be built of Saint Valery sur Somme’s ("Town of Art and History”) vast urban re-structuration programme. Work began in Mid-February and has just been completed. It included totally new roads and pavements, parking spaces and underground networks as well as public lighting. The brand new wooden walkway stands over the stone pitching and dominates the Bay. It is 500 metres long and allows pedestrians the opportunity of enjoying a safe, remarkably pleasant walk along the Somme canal.
